Links and ResourcesDepartment of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the ArtsThe Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts has a focus on the conservation of Australia's natural, Indigenous and historic heritage including the management of Australia's World Heritage, the National Heritage List, the Commonwealth Heritage List and other Australian Government responsibilities. It manages the National Heritage List, a list of places or groups of places with outstanding heritage value to the nation - whether natural, Indigenous or historic or a combination of these - which are protected to the full extent of Federal government powers. It also oversees the Commonwealth Heritage List, which comprises natural, Indigenous and historic heritage places owned or controlled by the Commonwealth. These include places connected to defence, communications, customs and other government activities that also reflect Australia's development as a nation. Other areas of responsibility include Indigenous Heritage, Movable Cultural Heritage, Historic Shipwrecks and a number of grants and funding programs. Click here to search the NSW Heritage databases. Historic Houses TrustThe Historic Houses Trust is a statutory authority within the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts. It is one of the largest state museums in Australia and is entrusted with the care of key historic buildings and sites in New South Wales.The Trust was established in 1980 to run Vaucluse House and Elizabeth Bay House and has now grown to manage 13 diverse sites and properties including houses, public buildings, a farm, gardens, parklands, a beach and urban spaces. The Trust holds extensive collections in each of its properties and conducts a dynamic range of programs and activities attracting over two million visitors to our houses and museums each year. Find out about our properties here. Heritage Council of VictoriaThe Victorian Heritage Register lists the State’s most significant heritage places and objects. Heritage Victoria maintains both the Victorian Heritage Register and the Heritage Inventory. The Heritage Council of Victoria determines what places and objects are included in the Victorian Heritage Register; only those places and objects considered to be of outstanding significance are added to the Register. Places on the Register are considered to have special character and value and assist in documenting Victoria’s history. Registered heritage places are considered to have ‘State-wide’ cultural heritage significance. The Victorian Heritage Register is established under the Victorian Heritage Act 1995 and provides the highest level of protection for heritage places and objects in Victoria. |
