Johnston Collection, The
Information: The Johnston Collection in East Melbourne was bequeathed to the people of Victoria in 1986 by William Johnston (1911-1986), an antique dealer and collector. During his lifetime, William Johnston amassed an astonishing collection of Georgian and Regency furniture, paintings, ceramics and objet díart which are displayed in a constantly changing domestic setting (unfettered by ropes or barriers) in his former residence, Fairhall. The Johnston Collection, incorporating House Museum Fairhall, Gallery, Reference Library and Shop is a hidden treasure in the heart of Melbourne. The Johnston Collection House Museum has three guided tours daily Monday to Friday and out of hours tours at 10.00am on the second Saturday of each month and 7.00pm on the third Thursday of each month. Bookings are essential. Adults $22.00 Concession $18.50 Group rate $18.00 per person for groups of 8 or more (maximum 22 people) Out of Hours tour $29.00 (Concession/group rates do not apply). To protect the privacy and parking rights of Mr Johnstonís residential neighbours, we are not permitted by our planning permit to publish the address of the museum. After making a booking, visitors are collected by courtesy bus from the foyer of the Hilton on the Park Hotel (Wellington Parade, near the Fitzroy Gardens).
