Port Pirie District Family History Group
Information: The Group aims to promote local and family history and to preserve records for future generations. Accomplishments include: (1) establishing an ever-growing photographic collection; (2) currently transcribing the full details of monumental inscriptions of the district's cemeteries for later publication; (3) providing guest speakers to local groups to promote family history; (4) currently creating a photographic collection of streetscapes; (5) establishing a collection of local wedding photographs; (6) establishing a working relationship with the local Council; and (7) providing a research service to international, interstate and intrastate enquiries (who apply in writing). Founded August 2000.
Events: The Group is currently part of History Week in South Australia (since its inception in 2004). This is held in the last week of May each year and the Group conducts a cemetery walk in the Port Pirie cemetery.
