Port Melbourne Historical and Preservation Society
Information: The aims of the Society (founded 1993) are: (1) to foster interest in and knowledge of the history of Port Melbourne; (2) to collect, preserve and, when possible, display items of historical interest relevant to Port Melbourne; (3) to compile and keep a historical record of the district in a form to ensure public accessibility; (4) and to seek preservation of buildings and objects of architectural, historical and social interest within Port Melbourne. The Society's collection is primarily paper based and contains documents, plans and photographs such as early council records; archives of local community groups and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church; and a genealogical database of Sandridge/Port Melbourne people. Cataloguing is nearly completed but not yet entirely entered on database. Open 10am to 1pm Tuesdays.
Publications: 'Historic Port Melbourne' calendar annually in October; newsletter five times a year. Editor of both is Pat Granger.
