University of Melbourne Archives
Information: The University of Melbourne Archives collects, manages and provides access to the historical records of the University, Victorian business, trade unions and other labour organisations, community and cultural organisations, as well as the personal papers of many individuals prominent within them. Records date from the first years of the colony of Victoria until the present day and cover a very wide field of endeavour. The Archives were established in 1960 and to date hold some 18 kilometres of records. The University of Melbourne Archives maintains an online catalogue with information about our collections. This catalogue is open to all and includes help screens for further information. The catalogue also contains finding aids for many of the listed collections. The University of Melbourne Archives are open to all researchers, not just University staff and students. Access conditions covering specific collections vary, however. Some collections are restricted and require permission to be obtained to view, and a few collections are covered by specific embargo periods.
