Woodend & District Heritage Society Inc
Information: The aim of the Society is to locate, conserve and make available, records pertaining to the area originally included in the Shire of Newham and Woodend. All material in the collection is fully indexed. Material from the earliest times to the present day is collected and includes items from local newspapers, shire records such as rate books and minutes, school, church and commercial records and oral history tapes and photographs. The Centre has a strong emphasis on community involvement and the fostering of an interest and enjoyment of all areas of local and family history. Members may borrow from an extensive library.
Publications: Members receive a regular newsletter "Heritage News" The production of books and pamphlets relating to the area is an ongoing commitment. The Heritage Society's home page lists those currently available.
Events: An annual dedication of plaques and trees along the Society's Family Heritage Walk forms an important part of Australia Day celebrations. Regular meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month and often incorporate heritage related activities and visits.
